Hotel Noble House – Inspired by the World of Film
Hotel Noble House takes its name from James Clavell’s bestselling novel from 1982 (the hotel opened in 1986), set in 1960s Hong Kong. The founders are said to have envisioned a hotel that breathed international luxury, inspired by the grand hotels of Hong Kong.
Much has changed since the 1980s, and Hong Kong glamour is no longer our guiding star. What we have kept, however, is the idea of drawing inspiration from books and films. Lina Östlundh, who is responsible for the hotel’s design and interiors, originally trained as a film scenographer. When creating new hotel environments, she always turns to cinematic scenes for inspiration.
In designing the new ground floor of Hotel Noble House – including the lobby, reception, bar, and conference area – Lina has taken this passion for film one step further. The entire space is now shaped by the world of cinema, inviting guests to step both behind and in front of the camera. The light-filled courtyard next to the breakfast room is designed to resemble a prop storage space with the feel of an artist’s studio. The large meeting room is inspired by a film studio, while one of the smaller rooms is designed as a production room complete with a green screen.
A private mini cinema has been created, which can of course also be used as a meeting room. The reception area and the staircase leading to the first floor are lifted out of their original context and built as two separate film sets. The reception is inspired by an 1980s movie set in Miami, while the staircase recreates a Southern plantation during the American Civil War. The Tavern takes its inspiration from New York’s film districts and symbolizes a gathering place for everyone working in film.
